How much would Johan Santana be worth as a free agent?

Given the money they gave people like JD Drew and Gil Meche, and the fat Zito contract, I'm curious about what they'd have to pay him.|||Obviously he is the premiere pitcher in the game at this moment. He could command a deal in excess of $20 million a year and possibly get ARod dollars and approach $25 million. But after the prices paid this off season I think the term "market adjustment" will be used a lot for the next 3 or 4 years like it was in the 90's (remember the collusion lawsuit filed by the players association) and it will likely happen again. i know the Twins are hopeful of a "market adjustment" otherwise they will have to look into dealing him when contract time comes around, no way they can pay what he can command on the open market.|||Johan is a better pitcher than Zito, though somehow id think he'd end up getting less.|||he'll be more than Zito..i say he'll get 5 years 150 million..possibly less tho|||Given the huge contracts and stats of other pitchers, I'd say he would be in the 100, 125 million dollar range for about 9 years.|||i say more that barry zito's contract|||tons, like 1,000,000,000$|||Well, i will that when he is a free agent, he will be worth more than he is getting by the minnesota twins right now.

Right now, he is getting aprx 30 million a year by the Twins, and can possibly be worth less as he gets older.

But that doesn't get rid of the fact that he's a future hall of famer.|||If Zito gets 17 million a year. I would have to pay Santana 5 times as much money because he is a 5 times better player than Zito.|||I would say roughly 6 years, $150 million and it won't be coming from the Twins. I would think the Yankees / Mets would drive the bidding price up.|||I would say about 20 million per in this ridiculous market.|||If Santana were on the market today, I can easily see him making around $20 million per season, particularly if the Sox, Yanks, or Mets want him. If Schilling retires, I can see the Sox pushing hard for him.|||I would say 20-25 million a year if he was a free agent this year. Hopefully, by the time he becomes a free agent, things will have chnged enough so that he will be able to stay with the Twins in their new stadium and play his whole career for the same team.|||AROUND 25 MILLION A YEAR. HE WILL LOOK VERY GOOD IN PINSTRIPES.|||I'd give him $50 to paint my house...
