How many think Hank Steinbrenner is kicking himself for not pulling the trigger on the Santana deal last year?

He must be.After the pitching meltdowns and injuries. His crosstown rival Mets are probably snickering and whispering. Will Joba the Hutt save the season? Johan shoulda been your ace,Henry!|||It is going to turn out to be a major mistake for the Yankees not to have acquired Santana. You never know how any young pitcher is going to turn out and Santana is one of the elite pitchers in the game and he is still young.|||It's all about expectations of the organization and the fans.

If the Yankees want to develop within and be more than a band of mercenaries, they need to accept two things.

Development takes time AND you can't make the playoffs every year.

If the Yankees only cared about this year in 08, worry about 09 in 09, etc, they should have traded for Santana.

The fans just have to stop thinking they need to be in the playoffs every year, stop booing their own players.|||The Yanks offered the best deal, the Twins declined and took a lesser deal from the Mets. I think the Twins are probably kicking themselves.

Oh and for the guy above me... when the team has a $200 million pay roll, tickets to the game are a minimum of $70 for nosebleeds, hot dogs cost $8 and a beer is $10... yeah... they better be in the playoffs every single year.|||no. melky has been doing awesome and he would have been gone. hughes is hurt and him and kennedy need more time to develop. joba can not save the season by himself. once the offense starts hitting with runners in scoring postition they'll be on top. and that will be soon. also, wang is an awesome ace. they dont need santana|||I don't because it's only May,2, 2008 %26amp; there are still about 130 games to go %26amp; it's the future he is building on not for the month of April %26amp; 1st days of May of 2008.|||King Felix is right.

Hank wanted to bet the farm on Santana and give them Hughes and Cabrera, but Cash talked him out of it. Hank's probably screaming I told you so right now.|||The Yankees were never going to get him. Twins have stated such. They were never going to trade Santana to an American League team. Never.|||Hank wanted the deal done but he gave the power to Cashman......Cashman is the one that would be itching and kicking himself right about now.|||Vision in hindsight is always 20/20. Yankees are building for the future, not May 2nd, 2008|||u cant get them all
