Is acquiring Johan Santana a good deal for the Mets in the long run?

I personally think it is, I just wanted to hear some opinions.|||dude were talking about one of the best pitcher in baseball also hes only 29 and has a career record of 82-35 and should get even better in a much weaker N.L. and the mets really didn't give that much for him.|||yeah its all based on opinion, we all know they can hit , ( and as a dodger fan myself who has seen them rack up god nows how many runs when they play the dodgers ) , and their pitches are closing in senior citizenship..... i think it was a great deal because santana is THE BEST PITCHER IN BASEBALL NO DOUBT.. and is only 28 years old|||How could it not be? You are getting the best baseball player in baseball right now and you're only losing 3 (4?) no-name pitching prospects and a crappy bench-outfielder. Honestly, it's probably a better here-and-now solution, but it sure as heck isn't going to hurt you in the long run.|||It is a great deal for the Mets if he pitches. If Santana gets hurt its just going to be another Carl Pavano situation in NY.|||All I know is that we need pitching desperately.|||I think so!|||It is a great deal. You give up a guy in Gomez who has no power. He might have good speed, but not great power. The Mets gave up the #'s 2,3 %26amp; 4 prospects in this deal, but they get the best lefty in the league in return. The Mets now have a real ace for the first time in quite a while. Pedro and Glavine were over the hill when they got them. This moves the Mets ahead of the Phillies for the early favorites in the NL East.|||awe you're all just jealous|||Utter BS

this is just as crappy as the Celtics/Wolves deal in basketball...Mchale giving up Kevin Garnett to his beloved Boston for one solid starter (AL Jefferson) and a bunch of marginal role players who wouldn't be in the league 4 years from now...

whats going on in Minnesota? their sports teams GMs are giving up hall of fame caliber players to new york and boston (2 huge markets) for basically jack squat in return

I hope he blows out his shoulder or gets in some kind of funk that he never wakes up from and keeps them away from the playoffs

oh yea they have to give him a contract extension too...how bout a 6 year 120 mil contract? that'll fsho gut the team (The Carl Pavano of the Mets perhaps?)

Mets fans

Its still not gonna make a difference just watch

he will blow out his shoulder or choke down the stretch in the second half and another season, another miss of the playoffs is gonna happen...just watch

Baseball gods won't let this slide...|||It just came down, Johan Santana for a outfielder, and three pitching prospects! As a twins fan, this is one of the worst trades possible. We give away the best pitcher in the major leagues and get a .232 batting average outfielder, and three pitching prospects. This is just a terrible trade!! Prospects are prospects for a reason, we don't know if they are going to pan out in the major leagues. How do they not get at least a starter from the Mets lineup such as David Wright? Bill Smith has started off his career as a GM terribly. Not only does he get absolutely nothing for the best pitcher in baseball, but he kills the teams chances of winning this year! Terribly disappointed!|||without a doubt. Santana will be a great addition to any team. me preferably to the cubs. but wow the mets were a good team before just imagine with this pitcher on the mound. there going to be unstoppable|||Yes, it IS.|||I dont think so. Its a quick fix and it wont solve the problems the Mets have. Just wait till he starts piss whinning about the players in the media. You will not like him all to much in years to come and exspect a few injuries with the hard on the arm slidder he throws way to much. I wish you the best with him.
