Why do the Mets bats take the night off when Santana pitches?

This is his 7th game and the Mets bats have scored a total of 5 runs and that includes tonight's game with 1 run.

He just pitched another 6.1 inning gem only to have two errors committed and the bullpen to blow the game.|||His rotation spot has him pitching against the opposing teams Ace the majority of the time, lets not forget that. I think Santana is the best pitcher in the game now but we can't take anything away from the opposing teams pitcher. The guys he goes against are intended to, and able to, stifle offenses.

His seven starts are as follows:

Mets 2 - Reds 1

W: Johan Santana (1-0), L: Aaron Harang (0-1)

Mets 1 - Marlins 2

W: Josh Johnson (2-0), L: Johan Santana (1-1)

Mets 1 - Brewers 0

W: Johan Santana (2-1), L: Carlos Villanueva (1-2)

Mets 4 - Nationals 3

W: Johan Santana (3-1), L: Scott Olsen (0-3)

Mets 3 - Marlins 4

ND: Johan Santana (3-1), ND: Josh Johnson (2-0)

Mets 1 - Phillies 0

W: Johan Santana (4-1), ND: Chan Ho Park (0-1)

Tonight he faced Derek Lowe who is 4-1 and Johan will either get a loss or get a ND.

The Mets DEFENSE has been causing Santana more problems than their offense.|||yeh obviously Santana doent get suported by his teamates' offensive.|||Yeah, Santana has been getting lousy run support. He's been pitching well, but if he has a bad game, the Mets will get murdered because of their bats.|||They get tired.|||i know man i am no Mets fan but i really like Santana, since he was with the Twins and i like to see him win and the Mets for some reason have not been able to put some runs on the board for him

maybe they just really can't hit in the clutch or play big when it matters the most that's why they have been knocked down by the Phillies the past 2 seasons|||They seem to think that they don't have to worry about offense when Johan pitches, because they think he'll be pitching shutouts everytime hes out. sadly, they can't score the 1 run in the first place to win em the game|||I WAS LISTENING TO THE COMMENTATOR AND APPARENTLY THE METS LIKE TO SCREW SANTANA WITH A TOTAL OF 2 RUNS PER GAME OR LESS THIS SEASON. I HEARD IT'S BECAUSE THE TEAM RELY'S TOO MUCH ON SANTANA BEING AN ACE AND ASSUME HE CAN KEEP THE OTHER TEAM FROM GETTING ANY REALLY GOOD HITS OF OF HIM.

THE METS NEED TO PUT SOME FIRE UNDER THEIR PLAYERS' ASSESS.....NOW SANTANA HAS ANOTHER LOSS THAT ISN'T HIS DOING.

JENNIFER|||Derek Lowe is a good pitcher.

He had a good night.

The Mets won 7 strait, the streak had to end sometime.|||No idea but its driving me crazy!|||They won't admit in public, or even to each other, but probably, in the backs of thier minds, they figure they only need a run or two to win when he's pitching, and so they don't try as hard.

The really sad thing is that the runs scored on him were unearned. Pretty rare to see a guy LOSE a game and have his ERA go DOWN, esp when it was under 1.00 to begin with|||with wright, reyes, and delgado in a slump its hard to put up runs. Beltran cant be the only run producer|||It's sad you know. He's really been pitching great. The offense and the defense really got to step it up when he's on the mound.|||I have no idea. All i can say is that Jerry HAS to get to the bottom of this. It is pointless having the best pitcher in baseball when we refuse to score runs. It is also pointless having the best pitcher in baseball if he will leave for no reason after 6 perfect innings. Wake up Jerry if you want to remian even close to the top spot.
