In what ways can Carlos Santana be considered one of the greatest guitarists?

Because its more then obvious hes one of the greatest guitarists to ever play and i want to get some of your opinions.|||All of the great guitarists are great for the same reasons:

1. Distinctive sound ( Carlos sounds like no one else).

2. Originality

3. Technical precision (he seems to never miss a note).

4. The ability to sit in with others and sound as though they've played together before.

Other guitarists who can do this: Warren Haynes, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman (RIP), Robert Randolph, Nels Cline, Derek Trucks, Al Schnier, Jake Cinninger, Jimmy Herring.|||First off Santana was not just hot between the 90s and 2000s, he was hot from when his albums starting coming out in the late 60s, and he was also one of the best acts at Woodstock. Carols Santana was originally in his own wing of the Latin Rock of Fame, neither playing Afro-Cuban with rock guitar, as did Malo, nor flavoring mainstrean rock with percussion as did Chicago. His first record, as with the best fusion, created something a little different than just a mixture - a new style that, surprisingly remains all his own. Granted that Latin music has seeped into the mainstream since, but why aren't Van Halen and Metallica listening to this? Where they simmer, Santana boils over.

Carlos Santana's fusion of Latin rhythms and blues-rock was way ahead of it's time. In the mid 1970s he discovered jazz and Indian spiritualism, changed his name to Carlos Devadip and recored John Coltrane tunes. By the end of the 1990s he's sunk into semi-obscurity, but then surprised everyone by storming back with the best-selling album of his career and winning eight Grammies.

Black Magic Womam:you wouldn't have thought anyone could improve on Fleetwood Mac's version of the Peter Green song, but you'd be wrong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaKnRUfh_鈥?/a>

Evil Ways: the other standout track from the band's 1969 debut and Santana's first big hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgH4XHoKT鈥?/a>

Soul Sacrifice: the other stand out from their debut album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLDalZ4-5鈥?/a>

One of the best of the best Santana is .

dave|||Your Best Answer...

You've Got To Be Kidding Me. Frank I'm Dead And Buried Zappa ? The Greatest Guitarist Of All Time? You've Got To Be On Drugs To Come Up With That...Please I'll Give Him Credit He Was A Good Guitarist, Composer And Lyric Writer/Singer, But Nothing More..... Hot Rats,Joe's Garage And Baby Snakes Are Phenomenal Works Of Art. He Stands Out Because In The Music Industry During The Span Of His Career He Dared To Do And Say Things In And With His Music That Nobody Would Dare To Do. True He Paved The Way For Free Speech In Music Today Which Is Mostly What He's Been Known For. I Happen To Like His Music But He Is In No Way A God.....

Anyway.... To answer your question correctly,

What Makes Carlos so great is the fact that at the time he came on the music scene there weren't many guitarists out there that could incorporate or fuse the latino sound into mainstream rock guitar playing like he did and still continues to do today BECAUSE HE'S STILL ALIVE.........which no one else was doing at the time in the late 60's.

More Importantly his mexican roots are always apparent in his musical style of playing the guitar as well as his persona.Carlos has a distinctive sound that is his trademark and cannot be duplicated by anyone else which is what sets him up on the top of my list of best ever guitar players.....|||alot of the best guitarists are around the same skill level, the way santana got famous was because he was featured on a lot of the latin songs when that was really popular around the 90's-2000's|||In no way. Carlos Santana is not among the greatest guitarists.|||The way he adds color to his songs by the way he picks the strings. It's hard to explain...but it's the little things....the details he adds.|||I don't know, in my opinion Frank Zappa is the best guitarist to have ever lived.
