Who do you think is a better pitcher, Johan Santana or Tom Seaver?

My dad said Tom Seaver was a BEAST. I think he once struck out 10 batters in a row. It's a tough call because Johan Santana is unhittable this year and everytime the Mets need a victory, he comes though.|||Johan is a good pitcher, but not a great one. Yet anyway. Tom Seaver was dominating. He along with Matlack and Koosman gave the Mets a powerful rotation in the '70's. If those Mets teams had better defensive players ( Ed Kranepool had to play somewhere), Seaver's numbers would have been even better.


And in old school form, Tom Seaver didn't need no stinkin' closer. He was his own closer.|||Tom Seaver won 311 games with a lifetime ERA of 2.86 he had 13 seasons with an ERA under 3.00 the most games he won in a season was 25 and his single season best ERA was 1.76, he also won 20 games or more in 5 seasons.





Johan Santana has won 113 games with a lifetime ERA of 3.06 he has had 4 seasons with an ERA under 3.00 the most games he won in a season is 20 and his single season best for ERA was 2.53, he also won 20 games once





Santana has been a very good pitcher, but Seaver is one of the all time greats.|||johan i think by far he has the most electric sdtuff in the majors broke the twinies record for strikeouts 17 the day after the bridge collapsed against the cards who were red hot at that time rick ankiel was jacking them but also his circle change batters bat 173 against it, his fastball 247 he is a beast i would rather hit against tom when he is on his game then johan when he is on his.|||Your father is right. Tom Seaver was super.





Johann is still pitching, he's only 29. When his career is over, then we may be able to look back and compare the 2. The one thing I hope is that Johann will have more Worlds Championships than Seaver did.





Tom Seaver always finished what he started, he had allot of complete games, and he was a perfectionist, the best pitcher the Mets ever had.|||I am an old guy 50 and saw SEaver when he was great. SAntana is similar and needs to get more seasons. But they are very similar in the way they play the game. Hope Johan does not get hurt or anything that would impede his career. He could be just as good and even better than Tom Tom.|||Check out their stats and compare them. Tom was a dominating pitcher in his time and when you speak his name most people who know baseball know who he is...Santana has a way to go yet to be mentioned in the same sentenced as Tom!|||Tom Seaver is much better looking at what they've done in a career.
