If Santana is suppose to be so good, why did the Twins trade him?

Not to take anything away from Santana. But, he's rated one of the greatest pitchers this season and the Twins trade him. Now, if your suppose to be that good and on a team that needs all the help that they can get, why would you trade him? I understand that they need to fill some spots on roster with some decent players but, at the expense of losing a "quality" pitcher?|||Because he wanted more money than the Twins were willing to or able to give him--simple as that.|||Twins don't have New York-type money. It wasn't worth it. Plus, the Twins got some good prospects out of the deal. Minnesota is a tough place to sell to players, I think. It's cold and they play on astro turf in a dome...but, at the same time, they somehow are able to get to the playoffs a lot.|||The Twins knew that Santana was not going to sign with them after his contract expires after this year. Rather than gambling to keep him and win with him, they wanted to trade him and actually get something from it. I must say, even though I thought the Yankees offer was far better than what the Mets offered, I really believe they got back some high-quality prospects, especially Carlos Gomez, who can replace Torri Hunter perfectly.|||they offered him 50 million and he turned it down


they also wanted to ensure that he went to the national league so they wouldnt have to face him


i am a white sox fan- make no mistake about it - he is the best pitcher in baseball by far


he will win a minimum of 18 games - probably more
